IP66 Enclosure: Load Cell Junction Boxes
Precision-engineered load cells from Flintec can be connected using our range of junction boxes - most of them rated to the IP66 enclosure standard.
IP66 enclosure rating means these junction boxes are completely dust tight and will protect the contacts inside from water projected at force.
IP66 Enclosure: Flintec’s IP66 Junction Boxes Range
Flintec’s range of load cell junction boxes included the following 6 rated to the IP66 enclosure standard:
- KA1 Junction Box, Aluminium - connects 1 load cell to instrumentation with shielded 6-wire cable.
- KA-KAK Junction Box, Aluminium - available in three versions. The KA-4 and KAK are designed to connect 3-4 load cells in parallel. KA-6 (an extended version of the KA-4) can connect up to 6 load cells in parallel.
- KP-KPK Junction Box, Polyester - connects 3-4 load cells in parallel. Available in 2 versions (KP-4, connects cables by soldering) and KPK (connects cables by clamping).
- KPF Junction Box, Polyester - comes in 4 versions. KPF-4, KPF-6, KPF-8 and KPF-10 can link up to 4, 6, 8 and 10 load cells respectively (KPF-10 is a larger box).
- ATEX Junction Boxes - available in aluminium, stainless steel and polyester, all rated to the EEx ia IIC T6 explosion protection standard. Connect up to 4 load cells with the aluminium and stainless steel boxes or up to 6 or 8 load cells with the polyester IP66 enclosure.
- KPFD-8 Junction Box, Polyester - designed for silos and weigh bridges. Connects up to 8 Type RC3D load cells.
IP66 Enclosure Standard
IP66 is the recognised International Protection (Ingress Protection) standard which is defined as:
- 1st digit (6) dust tight, no ingress of dust.
- 2nd digit (6) water projected in powerful jets against the IP66 enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
For further protection, you will need:
- IP67 - harmful ingress of water will not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in up to 1 metre of water.
- IP68 - enclosure suitable for continuous immersion in water beyond 1 metre in depth under conditions specified by the manufacturer. This usually means that the enclosure is hermetically sealed.
